Fergus's Shawl
This is the shawl I knit for my grandson Fergus. The yarn is Lorna's Laces "Helen's Lace" in shade "Watercolor". I used somewhat less than one skein. The motifs in the trapezoids are meant to be alternate thistles and roses, for Scotland and England, the countries in which Fergus' mother and father, respectively, were born. The centre square is intended as a pattern of interlocking Greek crosses, for the country of Fergus' own birth. A Greek cross is one in which the four limbs are the same size. I signed the shawl with my initials and the date (JMM 2002), using the lace alphabet supplied by Bridget Rorem in Piecework, May/June 1998. I neglected to leave space between the letters, so they aren't very easy to read.
